Sunday Morning with Jeannie and Mike

It’s been engagement shoot central around here lately! I look forward to all of my engagement sessions because it gives me a chance to get to know my couples and have fun with them before the big day comes. I was happy that Jeannie and Mike chose Balboa Park for their engagement session because I’m a native San Diegan, and somehow Balboa Park just reminds me of being a kid. Balboa Park is has all kinds of great light for shooting too.

We met on a Sunday morning, before most people had finished their coffee and read the paper, so we had much of the park almost to ourselves. Jeannie and Mike were super easy going, and very passionate about each other, which made the session all the more fun. I’m looking forward to shooting their wedding in October, aboard the Hornblower yacht “Renown” on San Diego Bay.

Maybe the Sun Will Shine Today…Chelsea & Tom at Windansea Beach.

Shooting at the beach is always a bit of a gamble in San Diego – not just because my gear might get wet or sandy, but because the marine layer is just so unpredictable. Lately it seemed like the pesky clouds were just going to hang out all summer long, but we finally got a break, and just in time! I met Chelsea and Tom at the end of Nautilus St. in La Jolla on a clear and beautiful Monday evening. All of us were crossing our fingers, hoping for a killer sunset. We were not dissapointed! The energy was great and I couldn’t be happier with their images.

Eryn & Dan: From the Car Park to the Cove.

Dan proposed to Eryn near the La Jolla Cove, so naturally they wanted to revisit that spot for their engagement session. Eryn was also interested in doing a few slightly ‘urban’ shots too, so we both parked under the Hotel Parisi on Prospect and took it from there. We took advantage of what little light there was underground and it was actually pretty cool! Well, actually it was really hot down there, so we headed out into downtown La Jolla and then made our way down to the cove for a classic California sunset.

Their engagment slideshow came together really well. I enjoy making little vignettes, like mini-movies, with the images I shoot. Feel free to check it out, and let me know what you think!

Steve and Darlene came all the way from Chicago to Newport Beach for their wedding. I met up with them the evening before the wedding in Laguna Beach for an engagement / family photo session along with Darlene’s son Kyle and daughter Taylor. We had a great time on the beach and everyobody was soaked from the knees down before we were even halfway through. The wedding itself was aboard the yacht “Hornblower” just before sunset. After the cruise, family and friends planted giant sparklers around the bride and groom for a wonderful parting shot.

I have to say a special Thank You to Steve for sending out two of the most amazing pizza’s I’ve ever eaten, overnight, all the way from Lou Malnati’s in Chicago. It was amazing! Chicago has been on my list of places to visit for some time, but the pizza is definitely pusing me over the edge to go sooner rather than later:)
